NOMOS Tangente 101 – NOMOS in its purest form
When NOMOS introduced itself to the world in 1992, it brought four watches along; the Tangente, the Ludwig, the Orion and the Tetra. Of these original four the Tangente would grow up to be the biggest icon. It is what most people think of when thinking NOMOS. It’s the spirit of NOMOS in a clear-cut stainless steel package.
The Tangente is known and loved for its simple & stark, yet elegant design. The lines are pure and clear. A simple silver dial with alternating stick indexes and Arabic numerals is framed by a thin bezel, which makes the watch appear slightly larger than it is. After that comes the case band, which cuts straight down to meet the case back. The strap is held in place by four elegant lugs, which hug down towards the wrist in a 45 degree angle. Time is indicated by three simple blued hands with of the perfect length.
While there have been many variations on the Tangente them over the years, the one we have for sale here is as close to the original 1992 release as possible – in fact it still carries the same reference number. The case measures 35mm across, the movement must be wound by hand, and the case back is closed. It is the purest of the pure, the essence of NOMOS embodied in a 35mm stainless steel package. I feel this size works for both women and men. It’s very contemporary for ladies, while it is also very cool for men who appreciate the style & elegance of times gone by.
This Tangente was used by NOMOS for trade shows, which is why it is labelled as MINT rather than NEW. This watch is powered by an older version of NOMOS’ hand-wound movement, hence we have priced it at 25% below the regular retail price. It will however be sold with the full manufacturers warranty and the official box & papers. It is now fitted with the original Horween Shell Cordovan, though we can with it with any strap you like at no extra cost.
