NOMOS Tangente Sport
The NOMOS Tangente Sport was introduced in 2001. It was the brand’s first attempt at a more robust and sporty watch. To achieve this they took one of their most beloved watches, the Tangente, and gently beefed it up on all sides. The diameter grew from 35 to 36.5mm, while the height went up from 6.6 to 7.5mm. It is hard to imagine now, but this in fact made it their biggest watch up until the 2005 launch of the Tangomat. Water resistance went up from 30m to 100m, the numerals got slightly bolder, and both the hands as well as the dial featured subtle dashes of SuperLuminova. While certainly no Submariner or Royal Oak Offshore, the Tangente Sport did live up to its name as a sporty take on a NOMOS evergreen.
In the Metal
The Tangente Sport feels familiar yet different. The slightly wider bezel instantly gives this watch a more sturdy appearance when compared to the regular Tangente. Paired with the thicker case this makes for a more robust feel; more 1940’s military than dress watch. At the same time it’s still very much a Tangente, with its stark design and straight-cut lugs. The dial has a heavier grain and as such I’ve labeled it silver rather than white.
The Tangente Sport we’re offering came to us straight from NOMOS HQ in Glashütte. It is in perfect condition and will be sold with full 2-year warranty by Ace Jewelers. I have chosen to label it as MINT rather than NEW as this watch came from old stock and is long discontinued. Inside is NOMOS’ hand-wound movement with date. It is currently fitted with a black Shell Cordovan but I’d be happy to swap it out for any other OEM NOMOS strap of your liking. Just let me know.
