press release: NOMOS Ludwig Enamel White

Gifts with a present on top

Gifts are always important, but even more so in a year like this one, where good times are harder to come by. Two classic watches from NOMOS GlashĂĽtte have been beautifully adapted and are available for a highly attractive price—and each comes with a present on top: glossy enamel-white dials.

GLASHĂśTTE, NOVEMBER 2020. Christmas is almost here again, and this year there are two special gifts from the watchmaking company NOMOS GlashĂĽtte to look forward to—namely two new versions of the classic Ludwig: one larger and highly elegant (Ludwig 38 enamel white at 38 millimeters in diameter), the other equally beautiful in a smaller size (Ludwig 33 duo enamel white at 33 millimeter in diameter). Both watches feature Roman numerals, fine indexes, and railroad minute markers—also known in French as chemin de fer. A slender pocket watch-style case is the perfect finishing touch, since Ludwig by NOMOS is a timepiece for traditionalists. Just like the GlashĂĽtte watchmakers who began honing their craft in the small town in Saxony, eastern Germany 175 years ago.

These may be atypical design elements for NOMOS GlashĂĽtte, yet they serve to make these models all the more classic. To mark the anniversary, both timepieces come with glossy enamel-white dials reminiscent of early pocket watches. Thanks to modern technology they are robust and made to last, and as such they are especially beautiful. The hands are tempered blue. Both models are powered by Alpha—the caliber that ticks in more watches from NOMOS GlashĂĽtte than any other. Three-quarter plate, tempered blue screws, and GlashĂĽtte ribbing are all beautifully on show through the sapphire crystal glass. The smaller, women’s version is a two-hand model and therefore belongs to the “duo” series, since it tells time in minutes and hours only.

To make these watches an even more attractive gift for someone special, NOMOS GlashĂĽtte has considered their prices carefully: The exquisite enamel-white dial, itself a tribute to the 175th anniversary of GlashĂĽtte watchmaking, can be thought of as a Christmas gift from the company—as the watches do not cost more than the corresponding standard versions.

press release: NOMOS Ludwig 175 Years Watchmaking GlashĂĽtte

Watchmakers in Glashütte have been crafting precision timepieces since 1845. NOMOS Glashütte is celebrating this anniversary with three special editions of its classic watch Ludwig. Each of the three models—with handwound caliber, neomatik caliber, or neomatik date caliber—is being manufactured in a limited edition of 175 pieces adjusted according to chronometer standards.

In a new special edition celebrating 175 years of the watchmaker’s art in GlashĂĽtte, Ludwig takes classicism a tick further: The Roman numerals on its enamel-white dial are complemented by blue-tempered leaf hands and a railroad track minute scale; engraved on the caseback of sapphire glass is a limited edition marking and the words “175 Years Watchmaking GlashĂĽtte.”

Three special anniversary models, three handcrafted movements: inside these watches ticks the tried and true handwound movement Alpha, the self-winding neomatik movement DUW 3001, or the neomatik date movement DUW 6101 — the automatic versions also featuring the NOMOS swing system. All three movements, manufactured in-house in Glashütte, are reliable pacesetters—and are regulated according to chronometer standards.

The NOMOS Ludwig 175 Years Watchmaking Glashütte are available for pre-order at our partner Ace Jewelers:

press release: small pleasures

NOMOS Glashütte presents duo: simple and elegant two-hand models with a prime caliber from Glashütte—watches for women that make wonderful gifts

GLASHÜTTE, MARCH 2019. Tangente, Orion, Ludwig, Tetra are the four classics that NOMOS Glashütte started with more than a quarter of a century ago. Now, there are new versions of these watches designed to embody the Bauhaus movement. Conceived for more delicate wrists, these models measure 33 millimeters in diameter (Tetra side length: 27 milli-meters). But this time they feature only two hands—hence “duo.” After all, sometimes it’s better to keep things simple. It goes without saying that these hand-wound watches contain a fine Glashütte caliber, meaning they are highly precise. Inside, Alpha.2 is at work: an adaptation of NOMOS’ most manufactured caliber.

The case of the four new watches is made of stainless steel, the dials are white silver-plated, as with other NOMOS classics. This silver case is complemented by golden hands, which makes this watch an ideal companion to jewelry. The mocha-brown typography is almost black, but softer, and the beige velour leather strap is also more delicate thanthe classic Shell Cordovan. A personalized engraving on the stainless steel back is the finishing touch—available on request.

R emoving the complication of the small seconds also means a reduction in price: Tangente, Ludwig, Tetra and Orion duo will make perfect presents, and are wonderful small pleasures from GlashĂĽtte. Available from April at Ace Jewelers.

hands-on: NOMOS Ludwig Neomatik Champagner 283

NOMOS is known for their modern and playful mechanical watches at an accessible price point. What I love about Nomos, is that they’re not afraid to make daring design choices that are surprising, playful and fun. When I first saw the champagne collection from NOMOS, it was love at first sight. Having the opportunity to wear any watch from the champagne collection was an honor, but a tough decision. Admittedly, the Ludwig was probably the least likely choice for me, but it was the model I selected in the end. Here’s why…
