Description
In May 2007, NOMOS launched Club ref. 701 as an affordable entry point into the world of mechanical timekeeping. It was well received across the board, with no competition in sight. Then in 2017, they introduced the colorful Club Campus series, which garnered substantial popularity. New models were added to the series each year. The original Club was removed from the NOMOS watch range, leaving many customers yearning for its return. Consequently, the decision was made to re-release the original watch.
However, this re-release would not be a mere resurrection but rather an incorporation of the insights gained from the Club Campus and Club Sport models. Despite its classic status, the aim was to infuse the original Club with the lessons learned from their newer iterations. For the very first time, they embarked on a design revision for one of their timepieces. Even if the changes weren’t immediately evident, the dial had been meticulously redesigned with watchmaking precision. These alterations encompassed:
• Typography: The numerals were enlarged, made more vivid, and endowed with a clear outline. Superluminova lined the hour numerals and indexes, enhancing readability, functionality, and luminescence.
• Sub-seconds dial: Enlarged with added numerals, giving it a sportier appearance.
• Dial overture: The minute track was shifted outward, creating a more open dial. To emphasize this effect, minute indexes were shortened, and minute numerals were reduced in size accordingly. The “Made in Germany” inscription at six o’clock underwent refinement in the process.
• Dial color: The dial was rendered lighter and brighter, precisely white silver-plated.
Numerous intermediate steps were taken to harmonize all these individual changes. Consequently, the result was a thoroughly enhanced and rejuvenated timepiece that still maintained its essence. It was their belief that customers would continue to cherish the Club model in this optimized design, labeled as reference 701.1 or 703.1, complete with a sapphire crystal glass back, for the next 15 years and beyond.
